white horse - a film by Maryann De Leo and Christophe Bisson

Maxim was born in Pripyat, Ukraine, just three kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear Power Plant. On April 27, 1986, after the nuclear accident, he and his family were evacuated from Pripyat to Kiev with 48,000 other residents.

In White Horse we follow Maxim back to his hometown, the empty dead city. The film starts in Little Pripyat, a suburb of Kiev where Maxim now lives. We take the long drive back to his home with him. We travel to a no man’s land, the Exclusion Zone, and then we arrive at his former apartment. Through the vanishing traces left in the empty space, Maxim remembers his past life. In this world fading away, one single image remains for Maxim: a relic of his lost childhood, his “Rosebud”.

White horse was selected at the international film festival in Berlin, the film festival "Cinéma du réél" in Paris, at the international film festival in Vienna in 2008.
